
Our approach was developed by people with OCD for people with OCD. It is underpinned by a number of crucial factors:
Personal experience: quite simply, we know what it feels like. This helps us form relationships with our clients and recognise OCD symptoms which are not immediately apparent. We can see what you are going through and we remember the frustration and manipulation it evokes.
Specialist: we don't treat anything other than OCD. it's what we do and we don't claim to treat anything else. We are OCD specialists.
Multi-disciplinary: OCD is a complex, multi-faceted, multi-dimensional disorder. A single clinical approach rarely deals with all aspects of OCD. Our approach is an effective combination which includes scientific education, life-coaching, behavioural and cognitive techniques, mindfulness and anxiety management.
Long-term: we have developed an approach which attacks OCD from 3 crucial perspectives. We know that many of the treatments currently available are based upon anxiety management or behavioural work. These approaches can help but we know that OCD will return in a different form if only these areas are targeted. We have therefore developed a comprehensive approach which deals with OCD for the long term.
Educational: knowledge is power. We always credit our clients with the ability to absorb information about OCD and use their newfound knowledge to drive their recovery.
Empowering: our goal is not to tie our clients in to long-term therapy, but teach them the skills to be their own therapist. Empowering the client with coping techniques is crucial in managing a life-span condition. Our average term is 15 to 20 sessions with a client. Some people take less, some more, but years of weekly therapy is highly unlikely.
Respectul & empathetic: our approach is based upon the premise that we are all equal and part of a team. Our therapists leave their ego at the door and see themselves as facilitators.
Hands-on: we never ask our clients to do things we haven’t or wouldn’t do. We roll up our sleeves and work with our clients in whatever environment is best suited to tackling their issues directly & to facilitating their recovery.
Holistic: we know that the origins of OCD are biological but we also know that the type of OCD you develop is based upon your environment. We look at both aspects and so, if you pursue therapy with us we are aiming at improving your OCD and having positive impact upon the rest of your life too.
