Benefits
We established one-day workshops in response to a growing demand for specialist information and help with OCD. These are not support groups but workshops with presentations, assessments, workshop materials and guided practical exercises to give the attendees practical coping skills in specific areas. The emphasis is on an interactive workshop, many with practical exercises to learn new skills. All workshops are set within a friendly, safe, empathetic and welcoming environment. Rather than feel alone and helpless the workshops are designed to facilitate the following:

Suitability
We offer a range of workshops targeted towards the following people:

Scheduled Workshops 2006

Carer’s workshops
This is targeted towards families and carers of those with OCD. It is a practical guide to 1. setting the correct environment, 2. offering the correct support, 3. setting personal boundaries and goals. As OCD is a lifestyle-invasive condition affecting those around the person with OCD, it is crucial that they are given helpful information regarding OCD, practical coping skills and the means to define their personal responsibility and that towards the person they care for. Too often families and carers first arrive at the Centre in a state of crisis as intense as the person with OCD. In order to maintain ethical boundaries the OCD Centre offers step-by-step strategies for coping which do not infringe upon client confidentiality and are a long-term blue print for all those involved on the periphery of this chronic condition.
(please note, if your loved one is receiving treatment at the Centre with a therapist involved in the workshop, they will not be able to discuss the particulars of their case with you due to the ethical framework under which therapists must  abide.)
Ages: 17+, 10am-5pm, £55 each day, £100 for both days. Click here for full details.

Accepting yourself with OCD Theoretical
The majority of people with OCD have low self-worth, tending to lack confidence in certain situations, put others before themselves, rate their worth according to their appearance or achievements and become distressed when others don’t approve of them. Although this is true for most with OCD, it is especially true for those with responsibility OCD (fear of harming or upsetting others) where low self worth is integral and sustaining to their core OCD issues. If the key to managing OCD is acceptance-based, the key to OCD, relationships, success, and ultimately happiness itself is self-acceptance and self-worth.  This workshop takes the self-worth issues associated with OCD and demonstrates skills and philosophies to enhance this vital component to life.
Ages: 17+, 10am-5pm, £55 (Lunch not included.) Click here for itinerary.

Accepting yourself with OCD Practical
This workshop is designed to complement the theoretical day above and here the emphasis is upon putting the theory into practice with interactive and team-based exercises and opportunities to practice new skills. We have seen powerful changes during our practical workshops where clients really “come into their own” and become very involved in the workshop process.
Ages: 17+, 10am-5pm, £55 (Lunch not included.) Click here for itinerary.

Coping with discomfort theoretical
What causes people with OCD to carry out their compulsions, even if these take the form of mental rumination or obsessing, is the need to relieve their discomfort. This workshop looks at the particular discomforts associated with OCD which can be anxiety, depression, guilt or anger. Sadly, we now live in a society which strives towards comfort and one that sees it as a measure of affluence and a right. Whilst it is fine to enjoy life’s comforts, this can lead to the avoidance of discomfort. Find out why avoiding discomfort is core to the development and maintenance of this condition and what can be done about it? The workshop comprises assessments, interactive discussion and exercises enabling practical skills to take away.
Ages: 17+, 10am-5pm, £55 (Lunch not included.) Click here for itinerary.

Communication and Socialisation Practical
A workshop aimed at those who are new to therapy or are apprehensive and uncertain about what to expect.  This is also a chance to meet others with OCD and hear about their experiences with the condition. For some it may be their first time in a therapeutic environment or their first time in a group. This will be a gentle introduction and socialization into the world of therapy with a chance to learn about OCD and ask questions. People who find it difficult to express themselves will be helped to do so if they wish to. This is for everyone, wherever and whenever you intend to get help. Carers, friends and families are very welcome to accompany the person with OCD but the day will be targeted towards clients and not carers per se.
All ages (young people under 17 to be accompanied by adult), 10am-5pm, £55 (Lunch not included.) Click here for itinerary.

Anxiety Management Practical
Since we realise that the end-result of OCD is intense anxiety for the individual, it is essential to teach anxiety management techniques in the initial stages of their treatment. The chances of success are greatly enhanced if a person has coping skills for the anxiety they will feel during the work ahead. Anxiety management is a vital component of the short-term first aid skill set. The day will include proven techniques, demonstrations and the opportunity to practice your new skills during the day. This is a safe, friendly and helpful environment with team work and advice from relaxation specialists.
Ages: 17+, 10am-5pm, £55 (Lunch not included.) Click here for itinerary.

Young Person’s Workshop (ages 10-17)
This workshop is aimed at the younger person with OCD. We know that they have specific issues and needs which may differ from an adult. Many young people find it hard to communicate their emotions as they struggle with the transition into adults with feelings of being different or at worst, alienated. Some are dealing with hormonal changes, problems at school, issues with their parents, conflicts with friends, sexual development and pressure to perform academically. This makes the struggle with OCD very challenging. We help young people articulate their issues, interact socially and therapeutically in a safe and informal environment. We try to balance enjoyment and empathy with stimulating work.
Ages: 10-17, 10am-5pm, £55 (Lunch not included.) Click here for itinerary.

Practitioner’s Workshop
This workshop is aimed at the healthcare professional who wishes to know more about OCD or add to their current knowledge and experience. The day will be educational and case-based with more technical emphasis than the other workshops. Practitioners will have an opportunity to ask questions, complete assessments and team exercises. It is not necessary to have previous experience of OCD and practitioners-in-training are welcome.
9:30am-5pm, £120, 20% discount for those in full-time education (Lunch not included.) Click here for itinerary.
